Fun with Fitness

“The health of our staff is of utmost importance to us”, emphasizes the Management of Team-Trans-Hamburg. „Exercises are essential. All day long, we sit in the office. Therefore, in order to compensate for this lack of exercises, we were looking for some sport activities that would please everybody. The idea came up to sponsor regular visits to a gym for all employees. The whole team welcomed the idea enthusiastically.

First of all, an adequate fitness studio had to be found. In no time at all, a small task force was formed. Bastian Poppenhagen explains the procedure of finding a suitable gym:

„To start with, we searched the internet. Here it was important to find a central location that could easily be reached by public transport. The next step was to test several gyms. Finally, we chose the fitness studio of Holmes Place. There, a great variety of first-class equipment is being offered together with a comprehensive range of training programmes. The gym manager was delighted with the quick and uncomplicated acquisition of new fitness customers.”

All employees have made use of this opportunity. After the day’s work, they start out together. Everyone has found his or her right training session. Due to the large number of equal equipment in a row, they are also able to work out jointly as a group.

There is no missing out on fun. Especially the Zumba fitness course was welcomed with enthusiasm. Naturally, sore muscles are inevitable.

Conclusion of this success story: These joint activities strengthen the team and contribute positively to overcoming a possible laziness after a long work day. Everyone is much fitter now and very proud of this accomplishment.

Our Link to Hong Kong

To capture the market in China starting from Hong Kong. This was made possible through the cooperation with our partner in Hong Kong.

Founded back in 1998, today our partner has a staff of more than 300 employees and offers a worldwide service in the area of sea and air freight. Just as Team Trans Hamburg, it is a dynamic enterprise. Both companies grow continuously and therefore go well together.

Beside the handling of full containers, the consolidated cargo business constitutes an important pillar. It is the focus of our mutual activities. A lot of our customers have suppliers in many regions of China. In order to offer an optimal service, consolidated containers are being shipped to Hamburg at regular intervals:
Twice a week: ex Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai
Once a week: ex Xiamen, Qingdao, Tianjin, Fuzhou, Guangzhou

Tianjin was added in August 2010. This year, two new offices have been opened, i.e. the one in Fuzhou and one in Guangzhou.

In addition to the dynamic development, very important components of our cooperation are reliability, a well-functioning organisation and excellent customer service. We share the same high quality standards. Another positive aspect is the unloading of the containers being handled within our Team Trans family.

Due to our long-standing successful cooperation, we have achieved a lot. The mutual growth makes us feel optimistic about the future.

and now Overseas Exports

Monika Demski The import specialist Team-Trans-Hamburg has expanded its product range and now offers services for overseas exports, as well. Arising from the extensive import activities, various enquiries for overseas exports had been received, again and again. In order to meet these requirements and to offer the usual customized services, our staff member, Monika Demski, took over the handling of the entire overseas exports and airfreight business. In an interview, Monika Demski gives us an insight into her new duties.

Question: Monika, since when have you been taking care of the overseas export business, and how has it all started out with you?

Monika: We increasingly received enquiries from our partners in Far East who asked us to organize some exports from Germany. In May 2010, we started to pool these requests and I took over the responsibility. Furthermore, some of our customers over here needed to ship back some goods to their suppliers in Far East. For this, we also wanted to offer our usual customized and personal service.

Question: How has this new field of services developed?

Monika: Well, in the beginning, I had a certain respect for this new situation. However, I soon gathered routine to cope with my duties and after a very short time, I started to really enjoy these new challenges. Enquiries increase constantly, for overseas shipments as well as airfreight.

Question: Can you give us some up-to-date examples?

Monika: Currently, we ship a lot of goods by airfreight to Taipei. As far as sea freight is concerned, India is a destination much in demand, most of all the seaport of Chennai. Of course, we are also able to organize shipments worldwide, for example to the United States or to Mexico – for LCL as well as FCL.

Through our sister company, Team-Trans-Logistics, located in the Free Port Zone of Hamburg, we have the possibility of packing containers with our own staff and send the goods on their way.

Question: What are your hopes for the future, what are the objectives for Team-Trans-Hamburg?

Monika: I am looking forward to receiving more and more orders. Even more complex matters do not scare me, as I like to meet new challenges. They always encourage me to achieve maximum performance in my daily work.

Detlef Voelz, Managing Director of Team-Trans-Hamburg: Our objectives are clearly defined. The export business is to be expanded. We wish to offer an enhanced scope of services to our customers and partners. In addition, we hope, of course, for a growth rate in the number of regular customers.

We thank Monika Demski for the interview.

TEAM TRANS HAMBURG pays a visit to
the Children’s Hospice STERNENBRÜCKE (stars bridge)

Team Trans Hamburg can look back at a successful year 2010. The Festive Season was motivation enough to let others participate in this success. The idea came up to expand the already existing contacts to the Children’s Hospice “Sternenbrücke” in Hamburg. A telephone conversation quickly underlined that we were a good match. And the staff of the Children’s Hospice was happy about the promise of a supporting donation.

During a visit scheduled at short notice, various possibilities for a donation were introduced. At Sternenbrücke, a list was available stating the actual needs and requirements. This helped to make our decision an easy one, and the sum to be donated was quickly allocated.

Our toy manufacturing customers were enthusiastic when they learned of our idea and spontaneously contributed several products from their production line, i.e. toys that are pedagogically adequate for the children.

… and this was the result.

On 6th December 2010, appropriate to St. Nicholas Day, the donation, together with the toys, was handed over in a festive ceremony. The Sternenbrücke staff was really happy!

India – a new experience

It all started when our Managing Director, Detlef Voelz, went on a business trip to Chennai (former Madras), India, in June this year. For European standards, a travel season under strenuous conditions with temperatures of above 40 degrees C and very high humidity. The city of Chennai is located on the southeastern coast of India. According to Mr. Voelz, it has beautiful beaches and shows an interesting mixture of old colonial houses with modern glass buildings.

Traditionally, many forwarding agents are located in the historic district of the town near the harbour. This also applies for the company of Pota Global Logistics (India) Pvt Ltd, with whom the initial contact had been established upon a recommendation. The company employs a staff of 45 people and has acquired renown as an international forwarding agency.

In addition to the Headquarters in Chennai, branch offices are located in Mumbai, Tuticorin, Tirupur, Bangalore und Coimbatore.

„I was well received and enjoyed the kind hospitality during my visit. Together with the Managing Director of Pota Global Logistics, Mr. R. Sajith, and his Deputy, Mr.  K.V. Ranjeeth, a sound basis was found for a sustainable cooperation”, says Mr. Voelz. „Already during our discussions, 3 containers were rerouted to Team Trans Hamburg.“

These containers have been eagerly awaited in Hamburg. Mr. Voelz insisted to be present when the first container from India would be opened.

The goods had been accurately stowed and arrived in Hamburg in good condition. The whole team, handling these goods at our warehouse, was quite happy to see this.

And all of us are now very much looking forward to handling regular shipments of consolidated cargo from India.
